SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK EXPANDS OPERATIONS IN BREVARD

New Distribution Center Enhances Hunger Relief Efforts Across the County

ORLANDO, Fla. (Jan. 30, 2025)Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida recently celebrated the expansion of its footprint in Brevard County. On Thursday, Jan. 30, the organization hosted a dedication ceremony at its new distribution center.

As the region’s largest hunger relief network, moving operations to 3125 Skyway Circle in Melbourne meets four important needs:

  • Increases capacity to secure and store perishable foods and grocery products by 50%.
  • Improves warehouse efficiency and pick-up experience for 87 local feeding partners.
  • Engages the community by adding onsite volunteer opportunities.
  • Enhances office space to accommodate growing needs.

“Caring for our community means stepping up to meet the evolving challenges that our neighbors encounter,” said Derrick Chubbs, president and CEO at Second Harvest. “As more families face difficult decisions about household finances in the wake of inflation, the acquisition of this new warehouse space in Brevard County marks a pivotal moment in our fight against hunger. This facility isn’t just about bricks and mortar – it’s a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of compassion in action.”

In fiscal year 2024, Second Harvest distributed enough food for 8.5 million meals to Brevard County neighbors through a network of local feeding partners. With one in eight Central Floridians at risk of experiencing hunger on any given day, the Skyway location will allow Second Harvest to rescue, store and distribute more food to more kids, families and seniors in Brevard County.
