Melbourne, FL, June 10, 2021 – Throughout the year, Women In Defense, Space Coast Chapter, recognizes individuals and businesses that go above and beyond in their support of STEM in our community. The WID, Space Coast Chapter recognizes the unique challenges facing student, teacher and mentor relationships this year, and plans to recognize individuals and organizations who have adapted programs and procedures to promote students’ interest and education in areas of STEM. Part of our organization’s core mission is to recognize those who contribute their time, effort, and resources to supporting educational partnerships on the Space Coast. Featured Speaker: Elaine Larsen, Larsen Motorsports
With over 20 years of drag racing experience, Elaine Larsen found her home behind the wheel of her jet dragsters. A 2X World Champion, Elaine, her husband, Chris, their son, Andrew and dog, Nitro, live their lives at full throttle. Mentoring the next generation of High Performance Vehicles Specialist is what fuels Elaine today. Her focus for 2021 and beyond is to give women a chance to get behind the wheel, or provide hands-on opportunities in this male dominated industry.
Elaine is also a creator of four comic books “Blaze”. These books were inspired by real life experiences. The stories they depict are adapted to high Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Manufacturing (STEAM) education and the curricula associated with each of the corresponding comics. Being a strong positive female role model is a job Elaine takes very seriously, not only for the little girls, but for all ladies. Her message: Never give up – always give 100%. “Drag
