Florida’s Commissioner for the Office of Financial Regulation Speaks for the Florida Association of Chamber Professionals

Florida Association of Chamber Professionals hosts a webinar with Russell Weigel, III, the Commissioner for the Office of Financial Regulations.

Babson Park, Florida, United States – June 9, 2021 –  The Florida Association of Chamber Professionals (FACP) hosts Florida’s Office of Financial Regulation Commissioner, Russell Weigel III, for a webinar ‘Stimulating the Formation of a Capital Funding Ecosystem’ Commissioner Weigel will be speaking on this matter on June 22, 2021, at 10:00 AM EST for chamber executive, staff, and businesses throughout the State of Florida. The Office of Financial Regulation is the primary regulator of the state-chartered and licensed financial services industry in Florida, and is currently seeking industry feedback about how Florida law could help start-up and expanding businesses raise capital with greater ease.

Florida’s Office of Financial Regulation Commissioner, Russell Weigel, started as a corporate and securities lawyer before becoming Florida’s Commissioner. Weigel spent eleven years as a federal Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement attorney, serving in management, investigation, and litigation roles. A graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University of Miami School of Law, he also briefly served as a Florida assistant state attorney pursuing criminal prosecutions before joining the SEC. With more than thirty years of legal experience as both a federal securities regulator, private sector litigator, and legal financing counselor, Weigel has been working tirelessly on the revitalization of Florida’s small business ecosystem.

Commissioner Weigel was named Florida’s third top financial regulator in less than two years by Gov. Ron DeSantis and members of the state cabinet in 2019. One of the first tasks Commissioner Weigel tackled when entering the office was to adapt the Office of Financial Regulation to current technology. The Florida Office of Financial Regulation’s mission is to protect Florida’s financial services, consumers, promote a safe and sound financial marketplace, and contribute to the growth of Florida’s economy through fair, innovative, and excellent regulation of the financial services industry. The Florida Office of Financial Regulation (OFR) is currently seeking industry feedback about how Florida law could help start-ups, expanding businesses, and their networks to raise capital with greater ease. The OFR values professional insight and opinion. They look forward to collaborating with start-ups, incubators, accelerators, business associations, chambers of commerce, SCORE, SBA offices, colleges, universities, and local business communities throughout the state. The OFR appreciates the input and new ideas to build Florida’s small business ecosystem.
