“Among the Mangroves” Kicks Off New Virtual Field Trip Series
The City of Melbourne’s Environmental Community Outreach (ECO) Division and the Marine Resources Council (MRC) are teaming up to offer a series of free, 45-minute virtual field trips for children and the public.
The virtual field trips will be live-streamed from different outdoor habitats at 9:30 a.m. on March 18 and April 15.
Nicole Broquet, the MRC’s Environmental Education Coordinator, and Megan Selva, the City of Melbourne’s Environmental Programs Coordinator, will give a multimedia presentation, have a special speaker and talk with the attendees. Participants can use the chat box to ask questions and interact with the meeting hosts. There will be poll questions and a Q&A.
The first session, “Among the Mangroves,” will introduce participants to the wonders of one of Florida's most amazing ecosystems. Learn how to identify different types of mangroves, why they are important, view the MRC’s mangrove nursery, discuss restoration, and then see how mangroves are planted on the MRCs shoreline. The program will end with a live Q&A session.
